Witness statement

Japan Air Lines flight 1628, a Boeing 747 cargo plane on the Reykjavik-Anchorage route, was followed for over 400 miles by two small craft and a larger "walnut-shaped" mothership-class object. Captain Kenju Terauchi reported visual and on-board radar tracking; Anchorage ATC confirmed independent radar returns. FAA Division Chief John Callahan publicly preserved the case files. Source: FAA records, NTSB briefing, Callahan deposition (2001).
